Amy Chen: Your Personal Travel Agent

Written by Sam Felsenthal on March 7

Meet Amy, one of our expert Pana agents behind the app. We sat down with Amy to ask her a few questions about all things travel and Pana.

Tell us more about yourself...

I give a lot of hugs, cookies, and math advice; listen to two-in-the-morning life crises and regularly climb up mountains; and problem solve while dishing out sass with a side of kale.

Location: Boulder, Colorado
Life motto:
Stay humble, stay grateful, and keep working hard.
Most recent book you’ve read: Excellent Sheep by William Deresiewicz
Favorite movie: The Theory of Everything
Fun fact: My spirit animal is Sheldon Cooper.

Why do you travel?
The world is so much bigger than each of us as an individual and I want to explore, experience, and learn as much about different societies, cultures, and people as I can. You learn to appreciate all the things you have and all the things you don’t have when you travel. You gain a sense of inner peace and open-mindedness that can’t be found elsewhere.

What’s the best part about living in Colorado?
Wearing Chacos and socks free of judgement and being able to climb fourteeners (which are mountains with summits at least 14,000ft above sea level). I’ve climbed twelve so far and have a goal of climbing twenty-one.

Where’s your favorite place to travel to?
Top of a mountain. I love nature, the quiet, the thin air, and the incredible feeling of knowing that we are so small but can carry ourselves so far.

Where’s your dream trip to?
Antarctica. I want to see the penguins and Aurora Australis.

What’s your worst/craziest travel story?
I broke my leg on a run (running on a flat surface and in a straight line) with the Edinburgh University Hare & Hounds three weeks after I arrived in Edinburgh to study abroad. I consequently had to undergo emergency surgery, withdraw from school, and go home—worst nightmare ever.

Favorite meal in another city?
Butternut squash, spinach, avocado, and spicy chili crepes from a pancake stand on an Edinburgh street corner at two in the afternoon.

What’s the best part about traveling?
Discovering more about the world and people around you but also learning about myself at the same time. I share my thoughts on my travel blog, Amy On Adventures.

What do you love about working with Pana?
I love helping people experience the magic of travel and being able to assist them in a positive and delightful way.

Favorite member story?
Helping a member book tickets for a Valentine’s Day surprise trip for her and her fiancé. After realizing that the chances of getting tickets in her budget were slim, I was able to work some magic and get her an incredibly discounted price and free seat upgrades. That was the absolute best—I just love making things happen for people and getting them the best possible scenario.

What’s something most people don’t know about Pana?
We are a team of real people who are genuinely invested in making your travel as wonderful as possible. We also have a great sense of humor and a great deal of knowledge.

What makes Pana great?
Everyone involved, whether it be the executives, developers, staff, or agents, is always trying to go above and beyond for each and every one of our members to make travel better than it’s ever been.
